Dear Parents and Students,

Friends Academy provides children with the finest environment suitable to their ages and levels to learn the Japanese language and culture on weekends. We welcome students from any nation and offer classes at every level. We respect students’ eagerness to learn and we support them in achieving their goals. The ability to speak and write Japanese is a considerable asset for them. We hope they will gain confidence in their Japanese language skills and move on to their future.

 <Level Classification>
Ⅰ: Students will learn Japanese greetings, vocabularies, responses and simple conversations.
Ⅱ: Students can communicate in Japanese and will learn advanced expressions.
 
A. Class Outline

    1.Japanese for Young Children Ⅰ

  • Activities to learn and speak basic words, greetings and simple sentences
  • Writing Hiragana (Japanese alphabet)
  • Crafting for the better understanding of Japanese culture
  • Students aim to move up to the next levels, Japanese for Young ChildrenⅡ or Japanese for Elementary-Age ChildrenⅠ.

    2.Japanese for Young Children Ⅱ

  • Activities to build up vocabulary and sentence structures
  • Writing Hiragana (Japanese alphabet)
  • Crafting for the better understanding of Japanese culture.
  • Students aim to move up to the next level, Japanese for Elementary-Age Children Ⅱ.

    3.Japanese for Elementary-Age Children Ⅰ

  • Activities to learn and speak basic words, greetings and simple sentences
  • Writing Hiragana (Japanese alphabet)
  • The goal is to prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)and move up to the next levels, Japanese for Elementary-Age Children Ⅱ.

    4.Japanese for Elementary-Age Children Ⅱ

  • Japanese as Language Arts
  • Writing Katakana (Another Japanese alphabet) and Kanji (Chinese characters)
  • The goal is to prepare for JLPT and The Japanese Kanji Aptitude Test (Kanji Kentei).
  • Students aim to move up to the next level, Japanese for Middle and High School Children Ⅱ.

    5.Japanese for Elementary-Age Children Ⅱ / Mathematics /Social Studies  

  • Japanese as Language Arts/ Math /Social studies
  • Writing Katakana (another Japanese alphabet) and Kanji (Chinese characters)
  • The goal is to prepare for JLPT and Kanji Kentei.
  • Math and social studies alternate each week.
  • Math course will focus on mathematical terms and problem solving. Social Studies will focus on increasing common knowledge of Japanese culture.
  • Students aim to move up to the next level, Japanese for Middle and High School Children Ⅱ

    6.Japanese for Middle and High School Children Ⅱ

  • Japanese as Language Arts / Integrated study
  • Integrated study focuses on Japanese important etiquette, polite expressions and reading daily Japanese newspapers.
  • The goal is to prepare for JLPT and Kanji Kentei.

  • Tuition fees are prorated by terms.  If the student joins in the middle of the term, we calculate the fees according to the number of days remaining.
  • If the student leaves during a semester or is absent,  the amount of tuition won’t change.
  • Please make check payable to "Japanese Children’s Society,Inc. ."
 
E. Registration
  1. Please call us to schedule the student’s evaluation/examination.
  2. Please send the application documents and a non-refundable registration fee check in the amount of $50.00.
    *We also accept them on the day of evaluation/examination.
    *Regardless of the examination result (pass/waiting/fail), the registration fee won’t be refunded.
  3. The evaluation/examination will take about 150 minutes.  The purpose of the examination is to evaluate the student’s level of Japanese proficiency and also evaluate the student’s attitude toward group study.
  4. If accepted, the applicant may begin as soon as a seat becomes available. If there is no available seat, his/her name will be put on a waiting list.
